To all the young people who are struggling with their identities, and who feel alone, I suggest this YouTube project called, “It gets better.”
It is up to all of us make damn sure that it does. Right here. Right now.

Yes, much as I blame and want the legal system to hold accountable the two young people who did this, it’s our fault as a nation that we haven’t gotten to where we recognize there is nothing abnormal about being gay. It’s natural for some people and it should be regarded as a viable and as healthy a life as any other. When it is, these suicides, and this is a long way from the only one, won’t happen because there will be no shame attached to being who you are.
It breaks my heart that so many young people are bullied for something that they cannot change anymore than they can change the color of their eyes. When will we as a “civilization” learn that it is okay for others to be different.
